Over the 18 years that I have been practising Pilates my love and passion for this amazing method of exercise has only grown. I’ve taught every different type of body from elite athletes, AFL players, cirque de soliel performers to your everyday person who sits next to you at work and the one thing I know for sure is that we can all do with Pilates in our life.
Here’s a little piece of my 15 year career
in this wonderful Pilates world…
Let me start by saying if you do a class with me you are guaranteed a big smile, hopefully a bit of a laugh and not to get away with a single thing when it comes to your Pilates! I have eyes in the back of my head… haha!
I started Pilates way before it was an on trend form of exercise and here’s how…
I was formally trained as a elite dancer starting at the ripe old age of four. I then went on to train full time from the age of 15. Training Dance 5-8 hours a day from such a young age took its toll on my body and that thankfully lead me to discover Pilates. I instantly fell in love with Pilates and the way I could get to know my mind and body on a deeper level. Through maintaining intensive Pilates sessions weekly I was able to see out the rest of my full time dancing years with minimal injuries.
From my first week on a Reformer bed, I always knew I was going to be a Pilates teacher. I began my Pilates Teacher training at the age of 17 and was a qualified teacher the following year. I then made the move from my small home town in NSW down to what I now know as home, beautiful Melbourne.
In my early 20s I shifted my energy solely to teaching Pilates and this was the best decision I ever made. Along side teaching 25-30 hours of Pilates a week I became a Mentor and A Faculty Educator for hundreds of students studying their Diploma of Pilates Instruction. Educating Pilates student trainers and Pilates Teachers has now allowed me to present across Australia, Asia and the United States. In 2015, I was then first the Australian to win the Next Pilates Anytime Instructor competition and became apart of the Pilates Anytime family in Santa Barbara, USA.
My Favourite Joseph Pilates quote…
“Physical Fitness is the First requisite of happiness”
Pilates Anytime is a globally renoun Online platform. Hosting many of the leading Pilates Teachers from around the world and I am fortunate enough to be one of them. I make annual visits to film my latest classes in the beautiful beach studio which can be viewed by participants and teachers all around the world. This was a dream come true for me and has opened up a world of amazing Pilates friends and opportunities.
In 2016, I opened my first studio Ki Movement Pilates where myself and the KMP team teach an amazing group of wonderful people every week. I embarked on my second studio Union Pilates as I strongly felt there was a real need for quality small group classes in Melbourne.
Pilates has made me stronger, given me physical endurance, increased my flexibility, rehabilitated me from severe injuries and mentally supported me through my tough times. I created Union Pilates so more people can share the same experience that I have had with Pilates.
When I’m not at the studio teaching you’ll usually find me outside going for a run, at the beach or hanging off some monkey bars… I love being up side down! I’m also a massive Pilates Nerd so I love heading to the States to further my own training by delving deeper into the history and learning from teachers who have direct lineage to Joseph Pilates. This is what inspires me the most!
I look forward to seeing you and having a chat in the studio 🙂
